When the sun is shining in all its strength, the light of a candle can scarcely be seen. One day, a miner took me into a coal mine sunk deep into the earth. Exodus 10:21 tells us "there was darkness over the land of Egypt, even darkness which may be felt." To many this may seem to be only a figure of speech, but in the mine that day, it was very real. Then the miner lit the tiny light on his helmet. We live in a very dark night. The darkness is so deep that even our feeble light of testimony can shine very brightly. This is especially true in the area of marriage, home, and family. In contrast to the darkness around, "Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven" (Matt 5:16).	우리는 매우 어두운 밤에 살고 있다. 어두움은 심지어 우리의 증거의 연약한 불빛조차도 매우 밝게 비칠 수 있을 정도로 깊다. 이것은 결혼, 가정 그리고 가족의 영역에서 주로 적용된다. 주변의 어두움에 대조적으로 “이같이 너희 빛을 사람 앞에 비취게 하여 저희로 너희 착한 행실을 보고 하늘에 계신 너희 아버지께 영광을 돌리게 하라”(마 5:16).
It is becoming increasingly difficult to comprehend the depth of shame that is evident in modern society. Can it be that anyone in their right senses can accept a marriage bond between two people of the same gender? Romans chapter one clearly states that "God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient … who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them" (Rom 1: 28, 32). This latter statement sums up a depth of evil that exceeds anything known in past ages. Men have always been sinful. This is not by degree, it is total. Then how can our age be more sinful? The exceeding sinfulness of this day lies not in sinful acts that are acknowledged to be sinful, but in trying to make right the things that are so obviously wrong. God has said, "Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness" (Isaiah 5:20).	부끄러움의 깊이를 이해하기가 점점 어려워지고 있는 것이 현대 사회에서 분명하다. 누구든지 올바른 정신으로 그들 안에 동성 결혼을 받아들일 수 있는가? 로마서 1장은 분명하게 언급한다 “또한 저희가 마음에 하나님 두기를 싫어하매 하나님께서 저희를 그 상실한 마음대로 내어 버려두사 합당치 못한 일을 하게 하셨으니....저희가 이같은 일을 행하는 자는 사형에 해당하다고 하나님의 정하심을 알고도 자기들만 행할 뿐 아니라 또한 그 일을 행하는 자를 옳다 하느니라”(롬 1:28, 32). 이 후반의 진술은 악함의 깊이를 잘 표현하고 과거 시대에 알려진 어떤 것을 능가한다. 사람들은 지금까지 항상 많은 죄를 가지고 있다. 이것은 어느 정도가 아니라 전체적이다. 그러면 어떻게 우리 시대에 더 죄가 많다고 할 수 있는가? 이 시대의 거짓된 엄청난 많은 죄는 죄로 알려져 있는 죄 많은 행위에서가 아니다, 그러나 행위들을 올바르게 하려고 노력하는 시도가 그렇게 분명하게 잘못되어 있다. 하나님의 말씀하셨다 “악을 선하다 하며 선을 악하다 하고 어둠으로 빛을 삼으며 빛으로 어둠을 삼고”(사 5:20).
A Christian husband and wife can be a powerful testimony by contrast. Do our children and even our neighbors sense that we are deeply devoted to each other, that our lives are pure and our love and care are genuine? Our little candle may not be very bright, but the darkness around us is almost impenetrable.	그리스도인 부부는 대조적으로 강력한 증거를 할 수 있다. 우리의 아이들과 이웃사람들이 느끼는가. 우리가 서로에게 깊이 헌신될 수 있으며, 우리의 생명은 순수하고 우리의 사랑과 배려는 진실한가? 우리의 작은 촛불은 아주 밝지 않을 수 있지만 우리의 주변에 어두움은 거의 뚫고 들어갈 수 있다.
In view of laws that are currently being debated, we need to pray earnestly that God will preserve to us some sense of the moral order that was given to man in the beginning. It is very significant that the Lord Jesus went back to creation in His teaching about marriage: "Have ye not read, that He which made them at the beginning made them male and female, And said, For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they twain shall be one flesh?" (Matt 19:4-5).	현재 논의되고 있는 법률들의 관점에서 우리는 진지하게 기도해야 할 필요가 있다. 하나님은 우리에게 처음에 사람에게 주셨던 도덕적인 질서의 일부 감각을 보존하실 것이다. 그것은 주 예수님이 결혼에 관한 그분의 가르침에서 창조로 되돌려서 말씀하셨다: “처음에 그들을 만드신 분께서 그들을 남성과 여성으로 만드시고 말씀하시기를, 이런 까닭에 남자가 아버지와 어머니를 떠나 자기 아내와 연합하여 그들 둘이 한 육체가 될지니라, 하신 것을 너희가 읽지 못하였느냐?”(마 19:4-5).
Not only is it true that "… two, saith He, shall be one flesh. But he that is joined unto the Lord is one spirit" (1 Cor 6:16-17). If the verses that follow are obeyed, we will be lights in the darkness of this age; "Know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s" (verses 19-20).	뿐만 아니라 그것은 사실이다 “…둘이 한 육체가 되리라, 하시느니라 그러나 주와 결합하는 자는 한 영이니라”(고전 6:16-17). 다음의 구절을 순종하는 경우, 우리는 이 시대의 어두움 속에서 빛이 될 것이다; “너희 몸이 너희가 하나님에게서 받은바 너희 안에 계신 성령님의 전인 줄을 너희가 알지 못하느냐? 너희는 너희 자신의 것이 아니니 주께서 값을 치르고 너희를 사셨느니라 그런즉 하나님의 것인 너희 몸과 너희 영으로 하나님께 영광을 돌리라”(19-20절).
