Satan rules as “the god of this age” (2 Cor 4:4). It is the only that is called “evil” (Gal 1:4). In the middle forties, I worked with older men who assured me that for the most part we were speaking to people who believed the Bible. Is this still true? The lie that first deceived Eve, “Yea hath God said?” has now deceived the whole world. How has this happened? Satan is the “father of lies.” One of his most successful lies is the denial of the Creator God. When invited to take up creation, I have been reluctant, because I did not think the majority of believers needed it. I could not have been more wrong. In 1987 the Supreme Court handed down a decision in a Louisiana case that special creation couldn’t be taught with evolution in public schools. To teach a supernatural creation was said to be a breach of the non-establishment clause of the first amendment. Some well meaning people have said, “The Bible is not a science textbook, so we can’t expect to find science in it.” But we can and do find truth in it. Genesis 1 is God’s truth and does not need to be adapted to the latest theory in geology or biology. The Lord Jesus taught, “From the beginning of the creation God made them male and female” (Mark 10:6). The beginning of the creation was not a protozoan that by “natural selection” through millions of years became man, but man was from the very beginning. The apostles believed that Adam was the first man (1 Cor 15:45), and there was no death until Adam sinned (Rom 5:12; 1 Cor 15:21). Moses wrote, “For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day” (Exod 20:11). This simply states that the six days of Genesis one includes verses one to 31. What is science? It is knowledge that is observable and repeatable. It can be studied, described and validated by empirical evidence. Is evolution science? It is supposition, not even worthy of the name of theory. In 1859 Charles Darwin wrote “The Origin of the Species.” He had discovered that plants and animals adapted to their environment. He believed that these small changes within a given “kind” were the mechanisms by which new kinds developed. Darwin wrote, “As by this theory innumerable transitional forms must have existed, why do we not find them embedded in countless numbers in the crust of the earth? The number of extinct species must have been inconceivably great.” He later wrote, “Not one change of species into another is on record... we cannot prove that a single species has been changed.” Darwin felt that future discoveries would substantiate his theory and stated that, “He who rejects these views on the nature of the geological record, will rightly reject my whole theory.” The amazing fact is that nothing has been discovered in nature or in the fossil record that has added any proof to Darwin’s theory. “The Fossils still say no” (Dr. Duane T. Gish). Darwin’s theory was that spontaneous generation produced life from a great mix of primordial soup. The work of Louis Pasteur came later and proved that only biogenesis is possible, that life only comes from life. George Wald (1906-1997), appointed professor of biology at Harvard in 1948 and winner of the 1967 Nobel Prize in Physiology wrote, “In Darwin’s day, the reasonable view was to believe in spontaneous generation; the only alternative was to believe in a single, primary act of supernatural creation. There is still not any third position. One has to concede that the spontaneous generation of a living organism is impossible.
